Vibal Launches MAPSA CL Series for High School
byKat Bautista & Carla Verayo • May 24, 2010

Series Editor and Vibal In-house Editor for Christian Living Dr. Pilar Romero discusses about the MAPSA CL Formation Series
The Manila Archdiocese and Parochial Schools Association (MAPSA) partnered with Vibal Publishing House Inc. to come up with a textbook series for Christian Living that is specially written for the Filipino high school students of parochial schools. Thus, the MAPSA Christian Formation Series was published.

The MAPSA Christian Formation Series is founded on three significant acts: Remembering, Celebrating and Giving Thanks. It seeks to lead both Christian Living teachers and their students to a profound experience of Jesus Christ by engaging them in these acts. These three acts, as amplified in the series, pave the way for the attainment of the specific objectives of Catechesis as articulated by the National Catechetical Directory for the Philippines.

The series is packed with features that accompany each lesson and will facilitate the engagement of the teachers and their students in the three acts of remembering, celebrating, and giving thanks. The sequencing of the lessons and the content strictly consider the needs and levels of their maturity and the language used is attuned to the culture and realm of experiences of the young.

The teachings of the Church are incorporated in the discussion to emphasize its role of affirming the teachings found in the Scripture. The series integrates Doctrine, Moral and Worship; is biblically-rooted and contextualized; and Christocentric. Moreover, the series features activities that encourage eager participation of students in parish activities. It also promotes a sense of belongingness among the students that chapter summaries with a featured saint (usually after whom the parochial schools are named) are included.

May 19, 2010 – An orientation-seminar on The MAPSA Christian Formation Series was held at Fr. Godofredo Heritage Center at the Paco Catholic School in Manila. Teacher members of the association participated and were given sample copies of the series.

The seminar, hosted by one of the authors Mr. Noel Misamis, started with warm welcome remarks from Paco Catholic School’s Grade School Principal Mr. Juanito H. de Vivar. The Director from the MAPSA Executive Council Rev. Msgr. Gerado O. Santos, Ed.D. gave his message for the authors and the MAPSA teachers, followed by a project overview by MAPSA series Project Coordinator Mr. Romulo D. Brazal.

Each book in the series was introduced and tackled by one of its authors. Discussion on the 1st year high school book entitled God Promises to Save Us (We Believe) was headed by Ms. Digna Delfino.

For 2nd year high school book - Jesus Comes to Save Us (We Remember) facilitated by Mr. Robert Nivero.

For 3rd year high school - The Church: Our Teacher and Guide (We Celebrate) presented by Mr. Noel Misamis.

For 4th year high school - Our Moral and Social Responsibilities (We Witness), facilitated by Mrs. Elmgay Valeriana.

After which, the MAPSA Formation Series Discussion and Synthesis was headed by the Series Editor and Vibal In-house Editor for Christian Living Dr. Pilar Romero.
